HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Bucknell men's golf team struggled to get anything going this weekend at the Patriot League Championship and settled for a fifth-place finish at Seven Oaks GC. The Bison, winners of three of the previous four league titles and coming off an excellent spring season, did place two players on the All-Patriot League team. Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) became a rare four-time all-conference honoree, while fellow senior Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) earned the distinction for the first time.
Bucknell started the day in fourth place in a tightly bunched group, and it dropped a spot on Sunday after shooting 307. Cohen led the team with a 3-over-par 75, giving him a 229 for the tournament. That put him in a tie for 10th place along with Schneiter, who closed with a 77.
Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) also fnished with a 77, while Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) shot 78, Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) 83 and Will Bachman (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) 85.
Lafayette won its first Patriot League men's golf title by seven shots over Lehigh. Army finished third, followed by Navy, Bucknell, Colgate and Holy Cross.
Rob Robertson of Lafayette shot 221 for 54 holes to win the individual title by one shot over Lehigh's Steve Suarez.
Cohen wrapped up a brilliant career by becoming the sixth four-time All-Patriot Leaguer and the first since fellow Bison Charlie Waddell. In his four career PL Championship appearances he finished T-4th, 6th, 1st and T-10th. The senior class of Cohen, Bartow, Pike and Schneiter will go down as one of the most decorated senior classes in program history.
