LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis had its final regular-season match shortened due to weather. The Bison were leading Bloomsburg 1-0 after sweeping doubles play at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Wednesday. They will hope for better weather return to their home courts when they host the Patriot League Tournament this weekend.
Bucknell completed all three doubles matches but could only start on the singles before lightning forced an end to the day. Claiming the cleanest victory was Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex). The pair of freshman did not allow a game to Alan Hummel and Lee Wexler, winning 8-0.
Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) won at No. 1 doubles, defeating Fernando Perez and Brandon Cummings 8-2. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day) teamed up with Ryan Marcil (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's) for the win at second doubles. The Bison duo defeated Ricky Dove and Mark Schroeder, 8-4.
The Bison also looked to be in control of many of the singles matches before competition ended. The Orange and Blue had the lead in all six contests.
Bucknell will be back in action April 23-25 for the Patriot League Tournament on its own Varsity Tennis Courts. The No. 3 Bison will face No. 6 Lafayette in the first round, squaring off in a 1 p.m. match on Friday.
