LEWISBURG, Pa. - Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), a sophomore on the Bucknell women's golf team, has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for her performance at last week's Big South Championship. Lee finished in fourth place, broke the school's 18-hole scoring record, and was named the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Playing at The Patriot Club in South Carolina, Lee opened the championship with a 2-under-par 70. That not only eclipsed her own program record, but it was the first sub-par round in the 12-year history of Bucknell women's golf. Her low round of the day also made her the first Bison player to lead the Big South Championship after any round.
In round two, Lee posted a 2-over 74, keeping her in the individual lead and helping Bucknell shatter the team scoring mark with a 303. Lee ended up dropping down to fourth place after Wednesday's final round, but that still represented the best finish ever by a Bison at the Big South Championship.
Not only did Lee's finish earn her All-Big South honors for the first time, but she was also picked as the Big South Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the first Bucknell student-athlete to earn that award. In addition to her fine play on the golf course, Lee is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average. She earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the 2009 fall semester, is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and has volunteered reading to youngsters at nearby Kelly Elementary School.
Lee's final 2009-10 scoring average of 77.8 is a program record for full season. She turned in three top-10 and five top-20 finishes this year and had averages of 76.9 in the fall and 78.7 in the spring.
