LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) earned his first Patriot League Golfer of the Month award on Thursday after turning in two strong performances in the month of March. With Schneiter's honoring, all four members of Bucknell's current senior class have now captured a Golfer of the Month Award in the last two years.
Last weekend at the Monmouth Hawk Spring Invitational, Schneiter finished at even par over 36 holes to tie for the individual lead, helping the Bison to a second-place team finish. Eric Lafante of Rider defeated Schneiter in a playoff, but that did not detract from the top finish of his career. Schneiter shot a 2-under-par 70 in the first round, and that score and his two-round total of 144 were both career bests.
Bucknell opened the spring at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at the Kingsmill Resort on March 22-23, and Schneiter posted rounds of 77-74 (+9) as the Bison finished tied for 12th out of 22 teams.
All three of Schneiter's classmates are previous winners of the Patriot League Golfer of the Month Award. Brian Bartow won it in September 2009, Andrew Cohen was the winner in April 2009 after capturing the Patriot League championship, and Jeff Pike earned the award in September 2008.
Schneiter is Bucknell's seventh Patriot League Golfer of the Month since September 2006.
The Bison, who have won three of the last four Patriot League titles and are favored again in 2010, are back in action on Apr. 10-11 at the Lafayette Invitational.
