LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) was named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Month on Thursday. Lucido became the third Bison this year and the second in as many months to claim the honor after going undefeated in singles play during the month of February.
Lucido won all three of her singles matches last month. The junior opened play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position over Pittsburgh's Adela Aprodu. Lucido then switched to first singles for her next two matches, defeating Duquesne's Ana Mungo 6-2, 6-1 and Penn's Alexa Ely 6-1, 6-4.
Lucido's success was not limited to singles play. She also went 2-1 in doubles last month, partnering with Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy). The duo's victories came 8-2 over Duquesne and 9-8 over Penn, both at the No. 1 position.
With a 51-21 career doubles record, Lucido is now sixth all-time at Bucknell in doubles victories. Her combined 5-1 record in February also brings her career total to 99-45. With her next win, Lucido will become the ninth Bison in program history to reach 100 career victories.
Lucido joins Varela and Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) on the list of Bucknellians to win the league's Player of the Month honor this year. Varela was recognized last month, while Iepuras was honored for her play in September.
Bucknell has a full schedule this weekend. Lucido and the Bison will open play at Niagara on Friday, followed by St. Bonaventure on Saturday and Syracuse on Sunday.
