LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball's Rachel Rodriguez (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) capped off her career with one more honor, being named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play on Sunday. The senior setter recorded 10 assists, five digs and a service ace in the Bison's 3-0 loss to American in Saturday's semifinal.
Rodriguez' play during the tournament was indicative of her success throughout the 2010 season. In her final year in the Orange and Blue, Rodriguez led the team in assists with 495 (5.05/set) and aces with 29 (0.30/set). She was also second among Bison in digs with 186 (1.90/set). Rodriguez' season totals in assists, digs, aces, kills (20) and blocks (9) were all career highs.
Among the other honors Rodriguez has collected during her senior season was the Patriot League Player of the Week on Oct. 10. The award came after recording a career-best 43 assists in a five-set victory over eventual Patriot League Tournament runner-up Colgate and made her the first Bison to earn the league's top player citation since 2007. Off the court, Rodriguez was also the only Patriot Leaguer to be named to the ESPN Academic All-District First Team, having posted a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in accounting. She was later voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
The all-tournament recognition is the first of Rodriguez' career and the fourth for a Bison since the Patriot League began naming a team in 2006. She joins Kristen Sydlowski and Shannon Pitsch, who were selected in 2006. Pitsch was also an honoree in 2008.
Bucknell finished the season with an overall record of 10-17. Also earning postseason honors was Heidi Kamp (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon), who was a First Team All-Patriot League selection last week.
