TORINO, Italy - Bucknell wrestling's Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon), a two-time NCAA qualifier and a 2010 All-American, competed on Tuesday at the University World Championships in Torino, Italy. LeValley wrestled at 66 kilograms/145.5 pounds and lost his only bout of the event as he finished in ninth place.
LeValley, who set Bucknell's single-season wins record with 42 victories last year, faced Zhan Safian of Belarus and lost 1-2, 1-0, 1-3. Safian, who lost in the quarterfinals, did not advance to the finals, eliminating LeValley from the freestyle competition.
LeValley qualified for the University World Championships based on his performance at this past summer's University World Team Trials in Colorado.
Next up for LeValley is the NWCA All-Star Classic in Fresno, Calif., on Nov. 21. He will face Edinboro's Torsten Gillespie at the event, which is a prestigious competition that showcases the top collegiate wrestlers from across the country.
LeValley will skip Bucknell's season-opening Navy Classic to compete at the NWCA All-Star Classic, meaning his first official competition with his Bison teammates in 2010-11 will be in a dual Nov. 27 at Nebraska, which was listed No. 15 in the NWCA/USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll.
Bucknell's campaign will unofficially get underway next Tuesday, Nov. 2, with an intrasquad match in Davis Gym. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
