LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) is going out in style. The Bison tennis star was named Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Month for April for the first time in her career. The last monthly Patriot League award of the season was announced on Thursday.
In the month of April, Gamboa led the Bison to a 5-2 record, with their two losses coming to the top Patriot League team: Army. Bucknell (15-7) advanced to the Patriot League finals to finish second to Army for the fifth straight season.
Gamboa went 6-0 in doubles and 6-0 in singles play in April, and was the only Bison to go undefeated in four matches against the Black Knights. Gamboa did not go to an extra set match the entire month with her closest singles match reaching a score of 6-3 on three occasions and her closest doubles match coming against Army, in an 8-6 victory.
This spring, Gamboa totaled a singles record of 12-7, playing mostly from the No. 3 flight. She posted a 16-5 mark in doubles, including 14-1 in the No. 1 spot when paired with sophomore Lauren Lucido.
Concluding her career at Bucknell, Gamboa moved herself into third place for career doubles wins (72-56), fourth in overall wins (135-117) and fifth in most career singles wins (63-61) on Bucknell's all-time ranks.
Earlier this week, Gamboa was named to the All Patriot League First Team for the third consecutive year. Gamboa will graduate from Bucknell with her degree in chemical engineering.
