LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) just experienced one of the best two-week stretches in the history of the Bucknell men's golf program, and on Monday he was rewarded with Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors. One week after tying for first place at the Caves Valley Intercollegiate in Maryland, he won individual and team titles at the Patriot League Championship over the weekend.
Cohen has played his last 90 holes in 3-under par, and he has his first two career individual crowns to show for it.
He became Bucknell's third Patriot League champion, joining Charlie Waddell, who captured league titles in 2005 and 2006. Cohen helped the Bison team claim its third league crown in the last four years. Bucknell is now assured of competing in the NCAA Regionals May 14-16.
Cohen shot 71-68-69 at the par-70 West Point Golf Course. The 54-hole total of 208 was a Patriot League Championship record. He won by eight strokes over runner-up Matt Krembel of Army.
In his first two Patriot League Championship appearances, Cohen finished tied for fourth as a freshman in 2007 and sixth last season. His win this weekend have him his third All-Patriot League certificate.
Cohen, who shot a 1-under 141 to win on the championship course at Caves Valley the previous week, has a terrific 73.9 spring scoring average, despite some miserable weather throughout most of the season. Cohen made a tournament-high 12 birdies at the Patriot League Championship and has 20 in the last five rounds.
