Bucknell's Men's Track and Field Squad Ninth, Women Tenth at Sykes-Sabock Cup Challenge

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – As the Sykes-Sabock Cup Challenge wrapped up Saturday on the Horace Ashenfelter III track, the Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams finished ninth and 10th respectively against tough competition.
For the women, Senior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) ran a season-best 2 minute, 12.13 second 800-meter race to place fifth overall and qualify for the ECAC Championships. She also made her presence felt on the all-time Bucknell performance list, where she took over third place.
In the field events, freshman Sarah Bella (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and junior Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) both scored in the shot put with sixth-and seventh-place finishes. Bella threw herself into ninth place on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list with a toss of 42-7. It was the fifth time that Bella has thrown over 40 feet this season. Musante, who resides at sixth place on the list, heaved a throw of 41-4 ¼. Freshman Meghan Frate (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder)also scored with her eighth-place finish in the triple jump, with a leap of 36-6 ¼.
The Bucknell men were led by Andrew Powell (Charlton, Mass./St. John's) in the high jump, where he placed sixth with a height of 6-8 1/4 to qualify for the IC4A Championships and join fellow teammate Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) at seventh place on Bucknell's all-time top-10 indoor performance list.
Shot putter Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River), a junior, placed sixth to narrowly miss the IC4A qualifying mark with a toss of 50-6. Junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) continued his impressive season, placing eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 47-11 ¼.
On the track, junior Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) placed seventh in the 600, with a time of 1:21.28, to score for the Bison.
Bucknell will be hosting the Bucknell Winter Classic Saturday, Feb. 14, in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
