LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) had a busy weekend with winning awards and top finishes at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. His top-notch performances earned him Damon's Athlete of the Week honors.
With a victory in the high jump, a second-place finish in the pole vault, and seventh-place showing in the long jump, Fitzgerald almost didn't have time to accept his Field Performer of the Meet award. He led his Bison to a runner-up finish behind winner Army. Army outscored Bucknell 188-129. It is the second consecutive second-place finish for the Bison.
Fitzgerald's victory in the high jump, at 6 feet 10 ¼ inches, is the second-highest jump in Bucknell history, indoors or outdoors. His second-place medal in the pole vault gave Fitzgerald 18 of Bucknell's 129 team points from the meet.
In 2008, Fitzgerald placed second in the high jump and fifth in the pole vault at the Patriot League Championships.
This is the first career Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honor for Fitzgerald. He's an undeclared major.
Fitzgerald, who placed seventh in the high jump, and the Bison will be competing in the IC4A Championships in Boston, on Saturday, March 7.
