LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three individuals and a relay team posted IC4A qualifying times for Bucknell men's track and field at the Penn State National Invitational at Ashenfelter Track. The squad also posted a pair of marks that rank among the top 10 in program history as the high-caliber meet closed on Saturday.
Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) claimed a pair of individual IC4A qualifying marks, both in the 1,000 meters. Smith finished fourth in a time of 2 minutes, 29.22 seconds in one of the 1,000-meter races. Ramer, who competed in the 1,000 meter invitation race, also earned a fourth-place finish in 2:29.02.
The 4x400 meter relay team completed the championship-qualifying group, coming in with a time of 3:17.59. The mark gave the team, consisting of Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain), Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln), John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central) and Kerry Boyle (Conyngham, Pa./Hazelton), eighth place in University Park, Pa., and moved it into the record books as the third-fastest 4x400 team in Bucknell program history.
Donaldson narrowly missed qualifying for the IC4A Championships on his own with his 10th-place finish in the 500 meters. With a time of 1:05.22, the freshman was just .02 seconds shy of the required time.
Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) finished his weekend at Penn State with a fifth-place mark in the triple jump. With a leap of 49 feet, 1 inch, the junior again bested the distance needed to compete at the IC4A Championships. Anthony has met the qualifying standard in each of his previous three meets. The jump also was a top-10 distance at the University.
Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wooton) completed the group of top-five finishers for the Bison. With a time of 4:17.54, the sophomore finished fifth in the mile.
Bucknell is back in action on Feb. 6-7 at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge at Penn State.
