LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field's Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Woods broke the school record in the 60-meter dash at the Bison Opener on Saturday, winning the event in 6.85 seconds.
Woods broke the previous Bucknell record of 7.01 seconds twice on Saturday. The junior finished second in the preliminaries of the season-opener with a time of 6.93. Crossing the line a mere hundredth of a second ahead of him was teammate Isaih Bell (Stone Mountain, Ga./Clarkston). Bell held the top time for less than two hours before Woods topped him in the finals.
Also bettering the previous high mark in the 60 finals was Bell in second place (6.87) and Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) in fourth (6.91).
Woods' success is not new as he placed third in the 60 at the Patriot League Indoor Championships last year. He also scored at the league's outdoor championships, placing sixth in the 100.
The Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honor is the first of Woods' career.
Bucknell track and field will be back in action on Jan. 9, 2010 for the Gulden Relays at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
