Bucknell's Andy Rendos Drops NWCA All-Star Classic Match, Bison Wrestling Travels to Army Tuesday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three-time NCAA qualifier and 2009 All-American Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area), who is ranked sixth nationally in the latest Intermat poll, represented Bucknell at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic in Fullerton, Calif., on Sunday. The senior dropped an 11-2 major decision to Iowa State's Jonathan Reader at the prestigious event.
Wrestling at his customary 165 pounds, Rendos was the lone Bison to compete on Sunday at the invitation-only event that was held in front of more than 4,000 fans and featured some of the country's best grapplers. Rendos, who was 96-25 in his four-year career entering Sunday's bout, lost to Reader by decision at both the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Championships.
Rendos will be in action two more times this coming week as Bucknell (1-2) travels to West Point, N.Y., to face EIWA foe Army Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, the Bison will host No. 1 Iowa and Rutgers on Friday at 4 p.m. in Sojka Pavilion. On Tuesday, Rendos will try to improve to 4-0 in his career in duals against Army. Last year he defeated the Black Knights' Michael Gorman by fall at 4:34, although the Bison fell to Army by a 21-15 team score at Davis Gym. Bucknell is 0-8 all-time against the Black Knights, who will be competing in a dual for the first time this year on Tuesday.
Tuesday's match at Army will have a live video broadcast available through goARMYsports.com. Friday's home matches in Sojka Pavilion will be broadcast live online through Bison Vision.
