LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Nicole Marotta (Bridgewater, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy), two senior captains of the Bucknell women's soccer team, have been named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region Team. Both student-athletes were First Team All-Patriot League selections this fall while leading Bucknell to an 11-6-3 record, and both have outstanding academic records as well.
A First Team Scholar All-East selection, Dervarics captured her second straight Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honor in 2008, and she went on to earn NSCAA/adidas All-Mid-Atlantic honors. Her third straight all-conference citation came following a terrific 30-point season. She ran away with the league scoring title, and Dervarics now ranks No. 3 all-time on Bucknell's career charts for goals (36), assists (19) and points (91). She is one of only seven players in school history to earn all-conference honors three times.
In the classroom, Dervarics is a mathematics major with a 3.31 grade-point average.
Marotta, a former all-region and conference player of the year herself, was named to the Third Team Scholar All-East team. Marotta in 2008 became only the second Bucknell women's soccer player to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors three times (the other was Hall of Famer Lisa Gibbons). After spending her first three seasons as a force on Bucknell's back line - she was the PL Defensive Player of the Year and a Regional All-American in 2006 - Marotta was moved up to the midfield this season and continued to be a star.
A two-year team captain, Marotta recorded a career-high five goals, including two in a home win over Mount St. Mary's, while patrolling the midfield with ease.
Marrotta is majoring in neuroscience and carries a 3.37 GPA.
Last month, the entire Bucknell women's soccer program was recognized by the NSCAA with a team academic award. With a GPA of 3.47 in 2007-08, the Bucknell tied for 27th nationally, and was in the top 10 among Division I institutions. Bucknell has now earned the award 13 straight years and it had the highest GPA of the four Patriot League schools recognized.
