LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team earned a trio of top-three finishes at the 10th Annual Bison Open & Multi on Saturday, including one from Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) in the heptathlon. Fitzgerald's 4,826 points qualified the sophomore for the IC4A meet later this season.
The Bison 60 meter hurdlers posted some of the best times of program history in the preliminary heats at the non-scored meet. Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), Dan Mularz (Englishtown, N.J./Freehold Township) and Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) earned the fourth (8.62 seconds), fifth (8.64) and sixth (8.67) places in the finals. Each runner's time was good enough to earn a spot on Bucknell's top-10 list for the event. Tony Cillo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) joined the trio in qualifying for the finals.
Mularz improved his time in the finals, finishing in 8.57 seconds, good for a third-place finish. Coyne (8.68) ultimately finished fifth, Arent (8.76) eighth and Cillo (9.17) 15th.
Thomas McGarrigle (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) added his name to a Bucknell top-10 list as well as he finished third in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.23.
Bucknell also faired well in the triple jump with Dan Kubinski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory School) taking fourth with a leap of 43 feet, 2.25 inches. Teammates Kevin McGuire (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and Jeremy Hollins (Feeding Hills, Mass./Gow School) finished in fifth (42-5 1/4) and sixth (42-2 1/4) places, respectively.
Rounding out the top-five finishes on the day were Jake Schroeder (York, Pa./York Suburba) with a third-place finish in the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.75, Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) with a time of 4:26.66 in the mile for fifth place and Ian Shore (South Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep School) who finished in fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:52.78.
