LEWISBURG, Pa. - The calendar flipped from spring to summer last week and at the same time all of the cardiovascular equipment and weight machines were removed from Bucknell's Krebs Family Fitness Center, which will be receiving a new floor during the upcoming month. That project headlines a number of improvements that will be taking place throughout Bucknell's athletic facilities over the next two months.
The fitness center, which currently has carpeted floors, will soon have a new six millimeter Mondo floor. The floor will have a natural finish and will feature orange, blue and silver institutional coloring. Carpeting, some featuring Bucknell athletics logos, will be placed at the entrance and along the walkways of the 16,000-foot facility. Additional enhancements of the graphics package seen throughout Bucknell's athletic facilities will be featured within the workout area.
In addition to the extensive work in the fitness center area, resurfacing of the track and jump areas inside Gerhard Fieldhouse will take place. The 30-year-old facility will also receive new lines for the courts and track. The fieldhouse's racquetball and squash courts, as well as the aerobics studio, will be resealed over the summer too.
In Sojka Pavilion, workers will paint the new men's 3-point line, which is now 20 feet, 9 inches, and will refinish the floor.
The work in the fitness center is expected to be completed in July. The renovations in Gerhard Fieldhouse will begin in late July and be done by the beginning of team practices in the fall, while the work on Sojka Pavilion's floor will conclude in August.
