Bucknell Women's Rowing's Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight Post Wins at Reading Amateur Regatta

READING, England (Thames River) - In a prelude to the Henley Women's Regatta, the Bucknell women's rowing team's varsity eight and second varsity eight both competed at the Reading Amateur Regatta this past weekend and came away with victories.
Competing in the Elite Eight, the top category in the event, the Bison varsity eight easily defeated Boston University, a team that had competed in the Grand Final at last month's Eastern Sprints, in the final by a margin of 1 3/4 boat lengths in a time of 4 minutes, 41 seconds. The Reading Amateur Regatta's format features a series of dual races and Bucknell had defeated Boston University's Second Varsity Eight and the Birmingham Rowing Club to advance to the final.
Bucknell's Second Varsity Eight won the Senior 2 Eight, which was the second-highest category at the regatta. The Bison earned a berth in the semifinals with a first-round bye and advanced to the finals when their semifinal opponent was disqualified. In the finals, Bucknell defeated the University College of Dublin by open water (1 3/4 boat lengths) in a time of 4:46.
Both races were approximately 1,500 meters, slightly shorter than the 2,000-meter events Bucknell's rowers are used to.
“I am really proud of how the rowers have approached rowing and racing on this trip,” said Bucknell head coach Stephen Kish, who is in the midst of a two-week excursion with the Bison to England. “We are having a great time and look forward to competing this coming weekend.”
Both Bucknell's varsity eight and second varsity eight will be in action this weekend at the Henley Women's Regatta on the Thames River.
