LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Whittney Henry (Mathews, Va./Mathews) was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Lighweight All-America Team for the second consecutive year, it was announced this week. She was the lone Bison on the 10-person team that featured rowers from Georgetown, Princeton, Radcliffe, Stanford and national champion Wisconsin.
Henry rowed in the 5-seat of Bucknell's varsity lightweight eight that placed fourth at the IRA National Championship Regatta this past weekend. It was the third straight year the Bison, who won the title in 2007 to claim the first national championship in school history, reached the Grand Final of the competitive event.
In addition to her role with the varsity lightweight eight, Henry was the bow-seat of the varsity eight this spring. The boat posted a solid 9-2 record and was named Patriot League Boat of the Year as it helped the Bison to their third straight Patriot League title. Additionally, the varsity eight won at the Knecht Cup, the Murphy Cup and the ECAC Metro Championship, while finishing second to Dartmouth by just 0.1 seconds in the Petite Final at the Eastern Sprints.
Each of the six teams in the IRA National Championship Regatta Grand Final was guaranteed at least one student-athlete on the Lightweight All-America Team. First-place Wisconsin had two rowers and a coxswain honored, while second (Georgetown) and third (Stanford) each had two rowers named All-America. Fourth (Bucknell), fifth (Princeton) and six (Radcliffe) had one selection apiece.
Henry is among the Bucknell contingent that is currently in England preparing for the Henley Women's Regatta, which will take place June 20-22 on the Thames River in Henley, England.
