Bucknell Women's Rowing Finishes 8th of 18 in Final Eastern Sprints Team Standings

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's rowing team had a fantastic showing at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday and it showed in the team standings, where the Bison placed eighth in an extremely competitive 18-team field. Each of the six Bison boats competed in at least the petite final and five of them had top-three showings in their petite finals.
The varsity four picked up a win in its petite final, while the varsity eight was in second place, just 0.1 seconds behind Dartmouth.
By finishing eighth, Bucknell finished ahead of traditional rowing powers Cornell and Columbia as well as Patriot League foe Navy. The regatta featured teams from the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions, including five of the top 20 teams in the nation according to the latest CRCA/USRowing poll. All eight Ivy League schools as well as a handful of other strong teams were part of the competition on the Cooper River Sunday.
Brown, the 2007 national champion, won the overall title, while Yale and Radcliffe followed in second and third. Bucknell was the second non-Ivy League member in the standings, finishing one spot behind Boston University.
This was the first time Bucknell sent its entire team to Eastern Sprints and it was the final full-team competition of 2008 for the Bison. However, the Bucknell lightweight eight will compete at the IRA National Championships June 6-7, while the Henley Women's Regatta will take place June 20-22.
