LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kristen Phalen (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy), a senior on the Bucknell women's golf team, has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for the first time after a career-best performance at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the University of Oklahoma.
Phalen posted scores of 83-75-73, the last of which tied the Bucknell 18-hole individual record. It was the fourth 73 shot by a Bison women's golfer, the last coming from teammate Emily Chiodo just a day earlier. Celine Herbin is the only other player in school history to shoot 73, doing so twice in 2003-04.
Entering the weekend, Phalen's career-best round was 76, but she bettered that score twice in less than 24 hours. She now has a spring scoring average of 82.5, and including the fall season her 2007-08 average is 82.0.
Phalen helped the Bison break the school 18, 36, and 54-hole scoring records in Oklahoma. The team shot 308 in the second round, six better than the previous school record. The 36-hole score of 624 broke the record by eight shots, and the 54-hole total of 943 obliterated the old record by 13 strokes.
Phalen and her teammates will be back in action on Apr. 14-16 at the Big South Championship at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C.
