
Bucknell Men's Tennis Falls, 5-2, To Delaware On Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team fell by a score of 5-2 against Delaware, Tuesday afternoon, closing out home play for this season with Senior Day. Senior Captains Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) were honored by Head Coach Rebecca Helt and Assistant Coach Larry Peterson for their contributions to the Bucknell men's tennis program, prior to Tuesday's match. Following the loss against the Blue Hens, Bucknell moves to a 10-9 overall record, while Delaware is now 9-7 in 2008.
To open the afternoon, Bucknell came away with the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Reibeisen and junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Orange) improved to 11-7 with a win over Austin Longacre and Nolan Greenburg (8-6) at the first position. At No. 3, freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and Young topped Chris Hincker and Jon Schwartz by a score of 8-4 to improve to 13-4 this season. At No. 2, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhassett, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) were defeated by Sam Barrer and Camillo Perez (8-4), but Bucknell was still able to move into singles play with a 1-0 advantage over the Blue Hens.
In singles, Malloy came away with Bucknell's lone win. He defeated Schwartz at No. 5, by a score of 6-3, 7-5, to post a team-high of 12 singles wins on the season. He now holds a record of 12-6 overall and 7-3 at the fifth position.
At the first position, Reibeisen fell to Longacre, 6-1, 6-2, and at No. 2, Greenburg topped Sandburg by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) was defeated by Barrer at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 4, Brenner fell to Hincker, 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out play, Young dropped his match at the sixth position to Perez by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
The Bison are now set to play their final regular season match, on the road against Bloomsburg, on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m., before heading to the Patriot League Tournament this weekend, April 25-27, hosted by Colgate.
