LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time in three weeks, Bucknell's Lauren Fry (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was named the Patriot League Softball Rookie of the Week on Monday. The outfielder hit .286, drove in seven runs and scored six runs in eight games.
Fry posted a pair of multiple-hit games and finished the week on a career-best six-game hitting streak, equaling the longest by a Bison this season.
The left-handed hitting Fry posted her best game last week against UMBC when she went 2-for-3 with a pair of extra-base hits, drove in three runs and scored a pair while leading the Bison to a 5-3 victory. She led off the third inning with her first career home run and later doubled home a pair in the top of the seventh. Those two runs proved to be the difference in the game.
Fry, whose six extra-base hits this season are the most on the team, posted three doubles last week and ended the week with RBIs in five of the last six contests.
A starter in 21 games this year, Fry leads Bucknell in runs scored (15) and doubles (5) and is tied for the team lead with 14 runs batted in. Her .290 batting average also paces the Bison, while her team-high 13 walks have her on-base percentage at .413.
Bucknell (8-20, 2-2 Patriot League) posted a 3-5 record last week, including 2-2 against Patriot League foe Lafayette. The Bison will return to action on Thursday, April 3, when they travel to Saint Francis (Pa.) for their final road non-league games of the season.
