
Bucknell Men's Tennis Finishes Spring Break Week With 7-0 Win Over Winston Salem State

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Bucknell men's tennis team finished its spring break week in Hilton Head, S.C. with a 7-0 win against Winston Salem State on Friday night, for their fourth consecutive win. The Bison are now 6-3 on the season while the Rams moved to 1-15 in 2008. The Orange and Blue went 3-0 on the week, also picking up a 6-1 win over Robert Morris and a 7-0 win over Southern Indiana.
In singles,junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) played at the No. 1 position for the second time this week, defeating Brian Coxton, 6-3, 7-6 and 7-4 in the tie breaker to make him 5-5 on the season and 2-1 at No. 2. Junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) played at the No. 2 position for the first time this season, winning his match over Maximillian Glodde, 6-1, 6-1 to bring his season record to 6-4. At No. 3, freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) played Ryan Linquist, winning 6-3, 6-1 to make him 6-4 in 2008.
Freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) played at No. 4, improving to 6-3 with a win over Troy Moore, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5, junior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) made his season debut, topping Patrick Jenkins, 6-0, 6-2, while at No. 6, junior Jamie Watson (Darien Conn./Darien) also made his first appearance this season, picking up a win over Andrew Jones, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and Sandburg improved to 6-2, with a win over Coxton and Glodde at No. 1 (8-2). At No. 2, Brenner and Kovic went 8-2 over Moore and Hunter, bringing the duo to 6-2 on the season, while at No. 3, Bednarek and Watson played for the first time this season, picking up a win over Linquist and Jones, 8-2.
Following Friday night's match, Malloy continues to lead the Bison with seven doubles wins, while Brenner, Kovic, and Malloy tie for a team-high of six singles wins.
Reibeisen continues to set Bucknell's all-time combined victories record, now with 135, and singles record (72). Sandburg and Reibeisen tie for Bucknell's all-time career doubles record, now with 63 wins.
The Bison will return to action on Tuesday, March 18, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson in Lewisburg, Pa. at 3 p.m.
