Bucknell Women's Tennis To Face Brown And Rhode Island On Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team is set to travel to Providence, R.I, this weekend to take on both Brown and the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. Bucknell's match against Brown is set for 1 p.m., and the Bison are schedule to play URI at 6 p.m.
The Bison are coming off a three-match weekend on the road, which took place Feb. 9 - 10, bringing a win over Quinnipiac and losses against Cornell and Syracuse. The Orange and Blue (1-4) will face a 2-3 Brown squad and a 1-0 URI squad, this weekend.
Bucknell Women's Tennis Notebook
Against Cornell on Feb. 9 -
- Bucknell opened a three-match weekend with a 7-0 loss against Cornell, moving the Bison to 0-3 on the season.
Against Quinnipiac on Feb. 9 -
- Bucknell topped Quinnipiac, 6-1, to pick up its first dual win of the season and move to 1-3 in 2008.
- In singles play, freshman Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Pauls School For Girls) defeated Mary Wilson of Quinnipiac, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, junior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) fell to Jackie Herb, 6-4, 6-2, but sophomore Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) came back at the No. 3 spot to beat Amanda Petruzzi, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 4, freshman Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) went 6-1, 6-4 over Lisanne Steinert and at No. 5, senior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East) topped Shawna Sarson, 6-4, 6-3. To round out singles play, freshman Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) defeated Nicole Adams, 6-3, 6-3.
- In No. 1 doubles, Gamboa and Calcaterra topped Herb and Petruzzi, 9-8 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker. At No. 2, Baffa and Lucido played Steinert and Rosenberger, winning the match, 8-4. To round out play, Dwojewski and sophomore Renee Weissend (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) went 8-3 over Sarson and Adams.
Against Syracuse on Feb. 10 -
- The Bison wrapped up a weekend of play with a 6-1 loss against Syracuse, bringing Bucknell to 1-4 on the season.
- Picking up the lone win for the Bison was Rottkamp. At the No. 6 position she went 6-3, 7-6 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker over Chelsea Jones for her second win of the weekend in singles play.

Bison in Fall 2007 Tournament Play -
- Bucknell closed out the fall season at the ITA East Regional Championships in Norfolk, Va. on Oct. 20, with Lucido and sophomore Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) falling in the third round of doubles, 9-8, 7-4, to 11th-seeded Michal Amir and Julia Huschke of Maryland to bring the duo's doubles record to 10-2 for the fall season. Lucido and Varela opened the weekend with a win over Walaa Elsir and Alexis McCoy of Morgan State in the first round, 8-2, and went on to upset the sixth-seeded pair, Elizabeth Googe and Susan Sullivan of Cornell, 8-6, in the second round.
- Gamboa held a 5-5 overall singles record on the season, 3-1 in Flight 1 and 1-2 in Flight 2. Lucido went 1-1 in Flight 1 singles (3-3 overall) and Varela went 1-3 in Flight 1 singles (1-3 overall).
- In doubles play, Lucido and Varela led the Bison with a record of 5-2 in Flight 1 and 10-2 overall. Baffa and Dwojewski posted a 5-4 doubles record, 3-1 in Flight 1, while Gamboa and Calcaterra went 3-7 overall and 3-5 in Flight 1.
Honors for 2007-08 Season -
- On Jan. 31, Bucknell was picked second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, with 40 points and two first-place votes. Army took the No. 1 spot with 49 points and nine first-place points. Colgate took third (35 points, one first-place vote), Lehigh was fourth (27 points), Lafayette was fifth (17 points) and Holy Cross rounded out the list in sixth (12 points).
- On Oct. 3, Lucido was named Patriot League Player of the Month for women's tennis. To open her collegiate career, Lucido posted a 10-2 combined record in September. She went 2-1 in singles and 8-1 in doubles when paired with Varela.
