Bucknell Track and Field To Host Patriot League Indoor Championships This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Championships this weekend, Feb. 22 - 24 at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Action will begin on Friday with the women's pentathlon at 12 p.m. and the first four events of the men's heptathlon at 12:15 p.m.
"Our men have been very focused all year for this meet," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "I feel as though they are ready to compete very hard. We seem to be the dark horse behind the favored teams from Navy and Army and we hope to contend with them as well."
Bison Men's Track and Field Notebook
At the Bucknell Winter Classic, Feb. 9 -
- The Bison claimed eight individual event wins, and posted four IC4A-qualifying standards at the Winter Classic.
- Senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) won the mile and topped his IC4A-qualifying time set earlier this season, with a career-best 4:09.26 for the seventh-fastest time in Bucknell history.
- In the high jump, freshman Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) notched an IC4A-qualifying height of 6-8 ¼ to win the event and place himself sixth on Bucknell's all-time list for the event.
- Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) won the shot put, posting his seventh IC4A mark in the event this season. He notched a career-best distance of 52-6, for the second-best mark on Bucknell's all-time list.
- Senior David Mante (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) posted an IC4A-qualifying mark of 16-2 ¾ in the pole vault for second place. The mark was a career-best height for Mante and is the second-best mark in program history.
- In the final for the 55-meter dash, sophomore A.J. Kizekai (Pawtucket, R.I./Blair Academy (N.J.)) won the event, tying the eighth-fastest time in Bucknell history, 6.54.
- Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) notched a career-best time of 22.43 in the 200-meter dash to win the event and tie the fifth-fastest time in school history.
- Sophomore Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) won the 500-meter dash, stopping the clock at 1:06.45, while sophomore Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.82.
- Bucknell took the top-two places in the 1,000-meter run. Senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) led the way with a first-place finish (2:30.91) followed by sophomore Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) in second (2:32.21).

In the Rankings -
- The Bucknell men's track and field team was picked third in the Patriot League's preseason poll, announced Dec. 6. The Bison tallied 70 points to place third, following Army (10 first-place votes) and Navy (six first-place votes), who tied for first with 90 points. Rounding out the list was American in fourth (64 points), Lehigh in fifth (47 points), Lafayette in sixth (43 points), Colgate in seventh (28 points) and Holy Cross in eighth (16 points).
2007-08 Honors -
- On Feb. 12, Medlock earned Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week honors for his performance at the Bucknell Winter Classic. Medlock won the shot put, posting a career-best and IC4A-qualifying distance of 52-6. His mark placed him second on Bucknell's all-time list for the event. Medlock went on to place eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 47-10. He posted his seventh IC4A standard this season in the shot put at the Bucknell Winter Classic, topping his last career best of 52-3 3/4, which was set at the Bucknell Heptagonal on Jan. 19, where he placed second.
- Macleod was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after setting a new school record in the preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles at the Bison Opener. He ran a time of 8.34 seconds, surpassing his own record of 8.36, set last season. MacLeod placed third out of 29 athletes in the prelim for the event.
- Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) was named the league's Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after winning two events at the Bison Opener, posting IC4A-qualifying marks in each. He took first in the long jump (23 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and went on to win the triple jump (21-6 ¼). This is the second-consecutive season that Anthony has won both events at the Bison Opener.
- On Dec. 1, Anthony earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors for his performance at the Bison Opener.
Looking Ahead -
- Following the league championship, Bucknell will prepare for the IC4A Championships, set for March 1 - 2 in Boston, Mass., and the NCAA Championships, March 14 - 15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
