LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team's NCAA Tournament appearance occurred more six months ago, but the honors are still rolling in for members of the squad. Former Bison standout right-hander Mathew Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Northern S.S.) was named to the All-Canadian College Third Team, it was announced recently by the Canadian Baseball Network. Wilson, who helped propel the Bison baseball team to an upset victory over Florida State in the opening round of last year's NCAA Tournament, graduated last May and played with Team Canada at the World University Baseball Championships this past summer.
Wilson's 7-0 shutout against the Seminoles marked the fifth of his career, which set a new school record. A team co-captain last spring, Wilson was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection. He finished his career with a 13-8 record and 156 strikeouts. His 73 strikeouts last spring were a career high and he narrowly missed breaking the Bison single-season record for strikeouts per nine innings.
The only Patriot League player honored by the Canadian Baseball Network, Wilson was a member of the Tallahassee All-Regional Team thanks to his performance against nationally ranked Florida State. He was also an Academic All-District II First Team selection and was named to the preseason watch lists for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year and the Roger Clemens Award prior to the 2008 campaign. He was also one of 30 initial candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Wilson was one of three All-Patriot League seniors who graduated following last year's 30-24-2 season. The Bison's quest for their second consecutive Patriot League title begins Feb. 20 with the first contest of a four-game series at Virginia.
