Patriot League Semifinal Match Recap
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball's Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team on Saturday. The senior co-captain totaled 17 assists, seven digs and a kill in the Bison's semifinal loss to top-seed American on Friday. It is Pitsch's second league All-Tournament honor, following her 2006 selection.
Leading up to Bucknell's Patriot League Tournament appearance, Pitsch became the university's all-time assists leader having accumulated 3,597 in four years. That total also places her fifth in Patriot League history. Her assists total was helped by two seasons in which she tallied more than 1,000 assists, including her sophomore season when she set the Bucknell single-season record with 1,099. Pitsch's name can also be found on the career aces list, where she ranks third with 136.
Pitsch has collected several other honors during the 2008 season, including selections to the All-Patriot League Second Team, Loyola-Chicago All-Tournament Team, Villanova All-Tournament Team and the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week list. Off the court, the setter was recently named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), making her eligible for Academic All-America honors.
After defeating Bucknell in the first semifinal match, American continued on to claim its eighth consecutive Patriot League Tournament title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in December. The Bison finished their season with a 13-18 overall record.
