LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Kyleigh McAhren (Napa, Calif./Justin-Siena) was named the Patriot League Baden Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is McAhren's first league honor and the first for by a Bucknell volleyball player this season.
In Bucknell's last two matches, McAhren totaled 15 kills (2.14/set), including 10 on Friday versus Holy Cross. The middle hitter also registered four service aces to lead the Bison. McAhren's five kills, two digs, one block assist and one ace in the contest with Army gave her one of the most well-rounded performances on the Bison's side of the net.
In her first year in the Orange and Blue, the management major has started all 28 matches and played in all of the team's 94 sets. She has led the Bison in kills on five occasions, including an October match versus Navy in which she connected for a career-high 14 kills on .545 hitting. McAhren also ranks among the team's top five in a number of season-total categories. With two regular-season matches to go, she is third in kills (197), fourth in hitting percentage (.176), second in service aces (29) and second in total blocks (52).
As a high school student-athlete, McAhren was twice selected to the First Team All-Napa County and helped both her volleyball and basketball teams to Northern California section championships. She also received the All-Academic Scholastic Team Championship Award in both sports as a senior.
The Bucknell volleyball team, which is 11-17 overall and 6-6 in the Patriot League, wraps up its regular season with a 7 p.m. matchup with Lehigh on Friday, Nov. 14 and a 5 p.m. contest with Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 15. Both matches, which are Davis Gym, are key to the Bison's hunt for one of the remaining two spots in the Patriot League Tournament.
