WILMINGTON, Del. -- Led by a 76 from Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck), the Bucknell men's golf team opened with a 309 in the first round of the Scotty Duncan Invitational, hosted by Delaware at White Clay Creek GC.
Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Will Bachman (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) both shot 77 for the Bison, while Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) carded a 79 and Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) an 82.
The Bison are in eighth place but only eight shots behind third-place Drexel in a tightly bunched field. Seton Hall posted an impressive even-par 288 on the tricky course that is loaded with water hazards. Host Delaware is three shots back at 291, followed by Drexel (301), Rutgers (304), Mount St. Mary's (304), Monmouth (305), Cornell (308), Bucknell (309), Lehigh (310), Iona (312), Goldey-Beacom (317), Fairleigh Dickinson (318), Fairfield (319), Lafayette (324) and Hofstra (330).
Ryan Castanet and David Sampson of Seton Hall and Colin Smith of Delaware are all 2-under par and tied for the individual lead.
The final round is slated for Sunday morning.
