Bucknell Volleyball Battles Colgate on Friday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball will put its third-place league record on the line when it takes on Colgate at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 in Hamilton, N.Y. Both teams share the third position with a 5-4 record in the Patriot League. The match is a key contest in the Bison's hunt for their first Patriot League tournament berth since 2006. About the Opponents
- Colgate enters the weekend with a 10-12 record overall and is 5-4 in the Patriot League. Senior right side hitter, Katrina Zawojski, has taken a commanding lead in the kills category for the Raiders with 305 on the season. She is trailed by sophomore middle blocker, Casey Ritt, who has totaled 173 in 2008. Freshman Kaylee Dougherty earned Patriot League/Baden Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, the first for a Colgate player this season. Dougherty posted a total of 19 kills in weekend play against Lehigh and Lafayette and leads the team for the season in hitting percentage (.322).
Bucknell swept Colgate (25-22, 25-23, 25-17) in their last meeting, which took place at Davis Gym in early October. Sophomores Kaitlin Segal and Heidi Kamp each claimed 13 kills to lead both teams. While Segal tied freshman Kyleigh McAhren for the most blocks in the match with four, Kamp tallied three aces and added two blocks of her own. Senior Shannon Pitsch had one of her biggest outings of the season with 36 assists in just three sets. Colgate's Zawojski led her team with eight kills, and Meghan Fanta posted 21 assists for the Raiders. With the win, Bucknell came a step closer to taking over the series lead. The Bison now trail 21-23 all-time.
Last Time Out
- The Orange and Blue split its contests last weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision to Lafayette on Friday before rebounding for a 3-1 win over Lehigh on Saturday.
- Liz Hazuka was the only Bison in double-figure kills against the Leopards. The senior posted a season-high 10 kills on .296 hitting (10-2-27) in Easton, Pa. Freshman Emily Sawanobori also contributed double-figure digs with 12.
- After throwing in eight kills against Lafayette, Segal more than doubled her total the next day at Lehigh. The outside hitter registered 17 kills to lead both teams in the category. She also chipped in 12 digs and four block assists. Kamp came within one block of tying her career high in the match. However, her seven block assists was still enough to lead both teams.
Looking Ahead
- The Bison will bring the regular season to a close with four straight home matches. The first half of those contests will be against Holy Cross at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7. Bucknell then takes on Army at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. Both matches will be played in Davis Gym with live stats available on BucknellBison.com.
