LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell wrestling juniors David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central) and Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) earned their second preseason national rankings recently when they were listed among the best in the country in their weight classes in the USA Today/Intermat/NWCA preseason rankings. Marble stands at No. 16 at 133 pounds, while Rendos is No. 14 at 165 pounds.
Marble and Rendos, both two-time NCAA Championships qualifiers, were also listed in the W.I.N. Magazine preseason rankings last month. That publication ranked Marble 17th in his weight class, while Rendos was 15th at 165 pounds.
Marble finished the 2007-08 campaign with a record of 27-9 and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships by taking second at the EIWA Championships. He has piled up 51 wins in his two years as a Bison, second to Rendos among current Bucknell wrestlers. According to Intermat, Marble is the second-best EIWA wrestler at 133 pounds, behind only Navy's Joe Baker, who is ranked sixth.
Rendos led the Bison in wins last year with 28 and owns a two-year record of 55-17. He also earned an automatic berth to last year's NCAA Championships after placing fourth at the EIWA Championships. His 16 duals wins were tied with Marble for the top spot on the team, while that figure is tied for third place in program history. Cornell's Mack Lewnes (No. 2) and Penn's Zach Shanaman (No. 9) are the only EIWA wrestlers listed ahead of Rendos in the Intermat rankings.
Marble and Rendos will get their first chance to perform in front of fans in 2008-09 next Thursday, Oct. 30, when the Bison hold an intrasquad match inside Davis Gym. The match is expected to start at 7:30 p.m. Bucknell will begin its regular season Sunday, Nov. 16, with a 1 p.m. match against Missouri, which is ranked No. 5 in the USA Today/Intermat/NWCA preseason poll. The Bison will also wrestle duals this year against unanimous No. 1 Iowa and No. 19 Old Dominion.
