LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) was named the Patriot League Golfer of the Month for September, the league office announced Wednesday. Pike finished in the top 20 in all three of the team's September events, including his first career win at the Bucknell Invitational to start the fall season.
Pike was 4-under par at the 36-hole Bucknell Invitational, including a career-best 3-under 67 in the first round. His performance helped the Bison win their annual fall tournament for the fourth time in the last six years.
A week later, Pike tied for third at the Colgate Invitational with rounds of 73-79 on a Seven Oaks course that was playing very difficult. As a team, the Bison tied for third at Colgate. Pike, whose father Tod was also a Bucknell golfer, also shot a 2-over 74 in the only round of the rain-shortened Cornell Invitational last weekend.
Through five rounds, Pike leads the team with a 72.4 scoring average. His 67 at the Bucknell Golf Club is tied for the fifth-best competitive round in program history and is just two shots off Ben Pellicani's school record.
Bucknell, which is 6-0-1 against Patriot League competition so far this fall, returns to action this Saturday and Sunday at the Scotty Duncan Invitational in Wilmington, Del.
