LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) was named Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Month for September, on Wednesday. Lucido, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2007-2008, went 6-0 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles matches during the first month of the fall tennis season. This is the second monthly honor that Lucido has received from the Patriot League, as she was player of the month for Sept. 2007, her first month of collegiate tennis.
The Bucknell women's tennis team opened its season on Sept. 13, with the two-day Bloomsburg Invitational, in Bloomsburg, Pa. Lucido did not lose a set in any of her three singles matches, and teamed with senior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) to win a pair of doubles matches.
Lucido continued her winning ways at the Bucknell Invitational, held from Sept. 19-21 in Lewisburg, Pa. She was victorious in all three of her Flight "A" Singles matches, winning the bracket. Lucido again played doubles with Gamboa, and the duo combined to win three matches on their way to the top of the Flight "A" Doubles bracket.
In a little more than a year of collegiate tennis, Lucido has won exactly two-thirds of her matches, compiling a 48-24 overall record. Her 66.7 winning percentage places her in a tie for 13th in Bucknell's all-time rankings. She has a 20-13 record in singles matches and a 28-11 record in doubles.
Lucido and the women's tennis team return to action this weekend, hosting the three-day Bucknell Invitational starting on Friday, Oct. 3.
