Bison Men's Track And Field Wins Bucknell Heptagonal

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's track and field team took first at the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday, topping five visiting teams, winning five events and posting three IC4A-qualifying marks. Bucknell compiled 171 points ahead of second-place Saint Francis (Pa.) (94 points), third-place Lehigh (83), fourth-place Duquesne (77), fifth-place Shippensburg (67) and sixth-place East Stroudsburg (64).
According to head coach Kevin Donner, "Our men competed extremely well today and showed depth in all the different event areas."
Junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) won the 400-meter dash, running an IC4A-qualifying time of 48.90. Also scoring in the event was freshman Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame) in fifth with his season best (50.26). Boyle went on to lead the Bison in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 22.53.
Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) picked up a first-place finish for the Bison in the long jump. He posted an IC4A standard of 23- 1 ¼. Anthony had already qualified for IC4A's in the event with his mark of 23- 2 ¾ set at the Bison Opener. Anthony went on to post the top finish for Bucknell in the triple jump. He placed second with a mark of 46-7 ¼ and was followed by freshman Daniel Kubinski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory School) who recorded a season-best distance of 43-4 ¼ to score for the Bison in sixth place.
Senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) won the mile, clocking a time of 4:14.73. He was followed by junior Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) in third (4:19.99) and sophomore Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) in fourth (4:20.24). Campbell went on to win the 3,000-meter run as well, clocking in at 8:37.17. Also scoring in the 3,000 was sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) who took fifth with a time of 8:51.02.
In the 500-meter run, senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) took first with a time of 1:07.70, while Hruch followed in a close second with a time of 1:07.71.
Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) posted an IC4A-qualifying distance of 52-3 ¾ in the shot put to mark the second-best throw in Bucknell history. He placed second in the event.
Freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) led Bucknell in the high jump, with a season best of 6-6 ¾ for third place and the eighth-highest mark in Bucknell history. Also scoring for the Bison in the event was freshman Nicholas Hruch in fifth (6-4 ¾) and junior Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) in sixth (6-2 ¾). Fitzgerald went on to score for the Bison in the pole vault. Senior David Mante (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and Fitzgerald each posted a height of 14-2 ¾ for third and fourth place, respectively.
Other top finishes included four Bison scoring in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) led the way with a second-place finish (1:56.59), followed by freshman Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) in third with his season best (1:58.34), sophomore Clement Gyan (Yonlers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) in fourth (1:58.40) and freshman Clayton Smith (Sparta N.J./Pope John XXIII) in fifth (1:58.95).
Sophomore A.J. Kizekai (Pawtucket, R.I./Blair Academy (N.J.)) was the top finisher for the Bison in the 55-meter dash. He took fourth in the final with a time of 6.58. Scoring for Bucknell in the 1,000-meter run was sophomore Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)) in third (2:32.93) and sophomore Griffin Burns (Hanover, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) in sixth (2:35.83). Senior William Holleran (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Acad.) took fifth in the 5,000-meter run, clocking a time of 15:32.32 while freshman Stephen Dorsey (North Wales, Pa./Casalle Collegiate) followed in sixth (15:37.91).
In the field events, top finishes included senior James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) in the weight throw, recording a distance of 53-2 ¼ for third place.
Bucknell took second in the 4x800 relay with McNamara, Novakowski, Willeford and Ramer running a time of 8:05.47.
Bucknell track and field will return to action next weekend, Jan. 25-26, in Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Open and Multi.
