Bucknell Women's Tennis Hosts Bucknell Invitational This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team is set to host the Bucknell Invitational, Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 30. Athletes from Villanova, Loyola, Farleigh Dickinson, Buffalo, Mount Saint Mary's. and Duquesne will play at Bucknell this weekend. Results will be posted following each day of competition on www.BucknellBison.com.
The Bison started the fall season at the Bloomsburg Invitational, Sept. 8 - 9, and most recently played at Army in the ITA Eastern Championships, Sept. 14 - 16.

At the ITA Eastern Championships, Sept. 14 - 16 -
- On the third and last day of the ITA Eastern Championships, freshman Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and sophomore Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) won the final round of the No. 2 doubles flight. Lucido and Varela were the top-seeded players in their doubles flight. The duo faced the No. 2 seeded team, Katherine Arlak and Christine Tran of Rutgers, in the final round, defeating the two, 8-4. Leading up to the final round, Lucido and Varela picked up wins against Kristen Liu and Whit Squires of Rhode Island (8-0), Katherine Klein and Coleen Speaker of West Virginia in the quarterfinal round (8-3), and Maude Lecluyse and Laura Maurillo of Massachusetts in the semifinal round (8-4).
- Bucknell's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Carlin Calcaterra (Hindsdale, Ill./Hindsdale Central) and junior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) were defeated by top-seeded Anela Dujsic and Polina Zaretser of Rutgers (8-2) in the quarterfinal round, after topping Tina Jacob and Diana Toia of Buffalo (8-6), and Amy McDevitt and Ayashi Sinha of Providence (8-1).
- In the second singles consolation flight, sophomore Kirstyn Sotak (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) played Ashley Harvey of Long Island for an 8-3 loss. Sotak defeated Jessica Ferarra of Siena (8-4) in the first round of the No. 2 singles consolation flight, and had a bye in the second round.
- Junior Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) won the Battle at Buckner Beta singles back draw. She defeated Dinka Keric of Siena (8-1), Jessica Asselin of Siena (9-8), Gabriela Davila of Fairfield (default), and Darcy Demers of Sacred Heart (default).
Looking Ahead -
- Following this weekend's tournament, the Bison will remain home next weekend for both men's and women's action at the Bucknell Invitational, Oct. 5 - 7. The ITA Regionals are set for Oct. 19 - 21 in Norfolk, Va.
