LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman Kaitlin Segal (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Harvard Westlake) was tabbed the Patriot League Volleyball Baden Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. This was the first career award for Segal and marked the first time a Bison took home Rookie of the Week honors since current senior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) received the accolade three times in 2004.
Segal reached double figures in kills in all three matches last week, helping Bucknell to a 2-1 record in those contests. She averaged 4.00 kills per game, 2.30 digs per game and hit .312 while totaling five aces and eight blocks.
Against UMES, Segal set a new season high with 17 kills and matched her personal best in blocks with four. In the Bison's 3-0 win over Lehigh, Segal registered 11 kills, eight digs, four service aces and three blocks. To close out the week, she posted 12 kills and hit .409 (12-3-22) in Bucknell's 3-0 victory over Lafayette, while adding 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.
On the year, Segal is averaging 2.17 kills per game, 1.94 digs per game and is hitting .276. She has 15 service aces and 21 blocks so far this season, as well. The Bison (8-8, 2-0 PL) will close out their stretch of seven consecutive home matches this Friday, Sept. 28, when the squad will play host to Patriot League foe Colgate at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
