Bucknell Volleyball Notches 3-0 Win Over Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three Bison reached double figures in kills as the Bucknell volleyball squad collected a 3-0 win over Lafayette on Saturday evening in Davis Gym. The victory moves the Orange and Blue to 2-0 in the Patriot League, 8-8 overall, while the Leopards drop to 6-10 (0-2 PL).
In game one, Lafayette raced out to a 12-4 lead, prompting a timeout by Bucknell. Following the brief rest, the Bison went on a 7-2 run to come within striking distance of the Leopards and eventually pulled even with Lafayette at 21-21. Bucknell would not trail again in the frame and captured a 30-27 win with the help of two kills by senior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) for the squad's 29th and 30th points.
The Bison struck early in game two, building a 12-6 advantage and rolling to a 30-19 victory behind a .359 team hitting percentage with 19 kills and only five errors on 39 attempts.
After falling behind 3-0 in game three, Bucknell battled back and took its first lead of the frame, 18-17, on a kill by freshman Kaitlin Segal (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Harvard-Westlake). The Bison remained in control for the duration of the set, recording a 30-27 decision to clinch the match.
Henderson totaled a match-best 18 kills for Bucknell and hit .394 (18-5-33) with eight digs. Segal followed with 12 kills and hit .409 (12-3-22), completing her double-double with 10 digs. Freshman Heidi Kamp (Springfield, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) contributed 10 kills with a .389 hitting percentage (.389) and three block assists. Junior Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) chipped in with 47 assists, while sophomore Jennifer Rupp (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) registered a match-high 18 digs.
Offensively for the Leopards, Katrina Racibarskas was the lone member of the squad to reach double figures in kills as she finished the night with 15. Kari Horn and Michaela Donohue recorded dig totals of 16 and 10, respectively, and setter Megan Carter compiled 28 assists.
The Bison will close out their stretch of seven consecutive home matches on Friday, Sept. 28, when the squad will play host to Patriot League foe Colgate at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
