Bucknell Men's Tennis Nipped by Delaware, 4-3, in Final Match of Season

NEWARK, Del. - On Tuesday, the Bucknell men's tennis season came to a disappointing end as they were edged by Delaware, 4-3, in their final match of the season. The Bison end the spring with a 10-14 (2-3 PL) mark, including a trip to the 2007 Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) tied Bucknell Hall of Famer Ed Hess for third place all-time with 101 career victories when he teamed with junior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) to take down Jason Hanschmann and Nolan Greenberg, 8-6, in the No. 2 doubles spot.
The sophomore pair of Jonathan Brenner and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) fell to Andrew Blumberg and Austin Longacre, 8-3, in the No. 1 spot, while Sam Barrer and Camilo Perez defeated sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth,N.J./Bergen Catholic) and freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) in the No. 3 spot to, 8-2, to capture the doubles point for the Fightin' Blue Hens.
Brenner and Sandburg notched a team-best 14-9 showing this spring while playing in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Reibeisen and Young end the season with an 11-7 mark while mostly playing in the No. 2 spot. Bednarek and Hascoe finished up with a 10-6 record playing in the No. 3 spot.
Reibeisen was defeated by Greenberg, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 1 spot. He ends the season with a 12-9 mark in the No. 1 spot. Sandburg put the Bison on the scoreboard after he dropped Longacre, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot for his ninth singles victory. Young lost to Jonathan Schwartz in a two-set superbreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6, in the No. 5 spot. Delaware clinched the victory when Barrer defeated Brenner in the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Hascoe posted a 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory in the No. 3 spot over Matthew Leibman. He ends his freshman campaign with a 12-10 mark. Bednarek tallied his 11th win of the season when he took down Perez in the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2.
At the end of the semester, the Bison will lose lone senior Brian Cohen (Potomac, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) to graduation. Cohen suffered a season-ending ankle injury during the middle of the 2007 season. Before his injury, he went 1-1 singles and appeared in two doubles matches. The senior will end his career with a 17-11 mark in singles, while going 13-10 in doubles for an overall record of 30-21.
