LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior Charlie Waddell, now a four-time All-Patriot Leaguer, has been named this week's Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. Waddell's 2-under-par 68 in the final round of the Patriot League Tournament on Sunday helped Bucknell win its second straight conference crown, securing a berth in next month's NCAA Regionals.
Waddell shot 74-73-68 in the 54-hole event and finished in third place. In his four Patriot League Tournament appearances, Waddell finished sixth, first, first and third.
The only repeat champion in league history, Waddell is now the fifth four-time All-Patriot League honoree, joining Aaron Wright and Billy Hurley of Navy and Henry D'Alberto and Bowen Osborn of Lehigh.
Waddell is in the midst of a record-setting senior year. In 2006-07 he has finished in the top 10 in 8 of 12 tournaments (and top 4 in 7 of 12), and his 73.7 scoring average is on pace to shatter the school record.
The Wilmette, Ill., native picked up his fourth career tourney title at the Lafayette Invitational the weekend prior to the conference championship, and he will have one more event - this week's Huntsville Invitational -- prior to the NCAA Regionals May 17-19.
