ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's tennis team defeated Lehigh, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2007 Patriot League Tennis Tournament on Saturday morning. The Bison, now 10-12 (2-3), will face No. 1 Navy in the semifinals on Sunday, Apr. 22, at 10 a.m. Junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) teamed with junior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in doubles play to earn his 100th career victory, which ranks him fourth behind Bucknell Hall of Famer Ed Hess. He is now eight wins shy of becoming the all-time career wins leader.
Reibeisen and Young took down the team of Drew Balshi and Brent Herbert, 8-1, in the No. 2 spot for Reibeisen's milestone victory, while the sophomore pair of Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) defeated Fernandez-Concha and Brad Nelson in the No. 1 spot, 8-6, to gain the first point of the match.
In singles, Brenner stifled Herbert, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot, to put the Bucknell up 2-0. In the No. 2 spot, Sandburg defeated Jon Nespoli, 6-3, 6-1, to gain a three-point advantage over the Mountain Hawks, a team the Bison narrowly defeated 4-3 earlier this month. Freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) sealed the victory for the Bison as he dropped Balshi in the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-2.
"Every guy on the team showed up to play tennis today," said Bucknell head men's tennis coach Rebecca Helt. "This is what we worked for the entire year. I am very proud of their performance and look forward to seeing Navy in the semifinals."
