
Bucknell Men's Tennis Stifles Lehigh, 4-3

LEWISBURG, Pa - After falling behind early in the match 3-1, the Bucknell men's tennis squad fought back to post a 4-3 victory over Lehigh, for its first Patriot League win of the season inside Gerhard Fieldhouse on Thursday. The Bison, now 7-11 (1-3 PL), will battle Lafayette, on Sunday, Apr. 15, at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks (2-11, 1-2 PL), won the doubles point taking two out of three matches from the Orange and Blue. In the No. 3 spot, the duo of sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) dropped Jon-Michael Caminiti and John Nespoli, 8-6, for Bucknell's lone doubles victory. Sophomores Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) were defeated by Alfredo Fernandez-Concha and Brad Nelson, 8-4, in the No. 1 spot, while the team of juniors Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) and Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) fell to Drew Balshi and Brent Herbert, 8-4, in the No. 2 spot.
Hascoe put the Orange and Blue on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat over Balshi, in the No. 3 spot, to tie the match at 1-1. Lehigh answered back when Fernandez-Concha took down Reibeisen in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-4, to put the Mountain Hawks up 2-1. Lehigh would go up 3-1 in the match after Nespoli beat Sandburg in the No. 2 spot, 7-6(5), 7-5.
In the No. 4 spot, Brenner dropped Nelson, 6-2, 6-2, to bring the Bison within one point of Lehigh. Bucknell tied the game up at 3-3 when Young took down Mike Gordon in the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 6-4. In the No. 6 spot, Bednarek completed the Bison comeback with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Caminiti.
