Bucknell Tennis Prepares for Weekend Homestand

LEWISBURG, Pa - This weekend, the Bucknell men's and women's tennis squads will host their first match of the season at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. On Saturday, the women will play Fordham and the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. The men will also play NJIT at 2 p.m., before battling Army on Sunday, April 1, in their Patriot League home opener at 11 a.m. The men currently stand at 4-9 (0-1 PL), while the women are 2-9.
The women's team, which was picked second in the Patriot League preseason poll, will look to sophomore Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) and freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy). Globerman has posted a record of 3-5 in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the lineup. Varela, who has battled her way back into the lineup for the Orange and Blue, has a record of 3-1 in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots. As a doubles team, the pair has notched a record of 2-2 in the No. 2 spot this spring.
Also looking to make an impact in the Bucknell lineup will be sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) and freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central). Gamboa has a mark of 2-9 in the No. 1 spot, while Calcaterra, playing in the No. 1 thru the No. 4 spot, has a record of 3-8. In doubles, the pair currently stands at 3-8 in the No. 1 spot.
Leading the Bison men into this weekend's matches will be junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper), who currently holds a dual singles mark of 6-5, in the No. 1 spot. He also has a record of 6-7 in doubles when teamed with freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and junior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. For his career, Reibeisen has a record of 88-75, which places him fifth in career victories in school history. He also ranks third in singles victories behind recent graduate and all-time career wins leader Asher Salam.
In doubles, the sophomore duo of Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) have posted a mark of 7-6 in dual matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.
