Bucknell Women's Golf Improves on Day 2 of William & Mary Invite

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) shot a career-best 74, one off the school record, and Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) carded a 76 to post a top-10 finish, highlighting a strong final round for the Bucknell women's golf team at the William & Mary Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Ford's Colony GC.
The Bison chopped 12 strokes off their first-round score, finishing up with a solid round of 316, which was two shy of the team 18-hole record. That left them in a tie for ninth place in the strong 19-team field, just two shots behind Penn State for eighth.
Western Michigan shot 617 over 36 holes to win the event by two shots over hard-charging Methodist, which finished with a 293, a 33-shot improvement from the first round. Also finishing ahead of the Bison were Winthrop (624), Columbia (636), Marshall (639), Xavier (640), Boston College (641) and Penn State (642). Bucknell and Virginia tied for ninth at 644, while Old Dominion was another 10 shots back in 11th place at 654.
Moran shot 82 in the opening round before rebounding with a stellar 74 on Sunday. Her 36-hole total of 156 placed her in a tie for 13th individually. Loughney finished in a tie for ninth with rounds of 77-76.
Also for Bucknell, Teri Schlang (Scottsdale, Ariz./Stratton Mountain School) finished with an 82, Kathryn Batchelor (Lawrenceville, N.J./Princeton Day School) shot 84 and Leah Antkiewicz (Aliquippa, Pa./Quigley Catholic) posted 86.
Laura Bavaird of Western Michigan shot 72-74 to win the individual title by four shots.
The Bison are back in action on Apr. 2-3 at the Longwood Invitational.
