Lucido Named Patriot League Player Of The Month For Women's Tennis

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) of the Bucknell women's tennis team earned Patriot League Female Player of the Month honors for September, the league office announced Wednesday.
Lucido currenty holds 10-2 combined record for an impressive start to her collegiate career. She has gone 2-1 in singles play and 8-1 in doubles play, when paired with sophomore Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy).
At the ITA Eastern Championships, Sept. 14 - 16, Lucido and Varela won the No. 2 doubles flight, defeating Katherine Arlak and Christine Tran of Rutgers, in the final round, 8-4. The pair started the weekend with a bye in the second doubles flight and went on to defeat Kristen Liu and Whit Squires of Rhode Island (8-0) in the second round. The duo then faced Katherine Klein and Coleen Speaker of West Virginia in the quarterfinal round for an 8-3 win and topped Maude Lecluyse and Laura Maurillo of Massachusetts in the semifinal round, 8-4.

This past weekend, at the Bucknell Invitational, Lucido went 1-1 in Flight A singles and 3-1 in Flight A doubles. Lucido and Varela advanced to the final round for Flight A, but dropped the match to Denise Harjonto and Diana Popescu of Buffalo (8-5), bringing the pair's season record to 8-1. To make the final, the pair defeated Jaclyn Williamson and Ashley Reed of Villanova in the semifinal round (9-7), Andreea Novaceanu and Tina Jacob of Buffalo (8-2) in the quarterfinal, and Kaitlin Hallahan and Emma Haley of Mount Saint Mary's (8-4) to start the weekend.
To open her collegiate career, Lucido went 1-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles at the Bloomsburg Invitational, Sept. 8 - 9.
The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams are set to host the Bucknell Invitational this weekend, Oct. 5 - 7. ITA Regionals are set for Oct. 19 - 21 in Norfolk, Va. for the women and Oct. 18 - 20 in Princeton, N.J. for the men.
