
Bucknell Women's Indoor Track & Field Has Record-Setting Day at Gulden Relays

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Saturday, the Bucknell women's indoor track and field team hosted the Gulden Relays in Gerhard Fieldhouse. Senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) set the tone for the Bison as she finished first in the 20-pound weight throw after launching a distance of 65 feet, 1 ¼ inches (19.84m), which made her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships. The Van Etten, N.Y., native also broke the school record as well as the fieldhouse mark. The senior also won the shot put competition and qualified for the ECAC Championships after tossing a distance of 45-3 (13.79m). For her performance, Grap was named the Field MVP of the meet.
The Bison posted a successful day in the relay events starting with the sprint medley relay. The quartet of seniors Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Academy), Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and freshman Kalle James-Wintjen (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) notched a first-place finish while also breaking the school record with a time of 4 minutes, 5.44 seconds. Trentacoste also posted a second-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds, while James-Wintjen recorded a time of 8.02, which was good for second place in the 60 meters. The group of senior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), freshman Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) and Sawko won the 4x400 with a time of 4:02.75.
In the 4x800, the team of sophomores Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), and Caroline Strunk (Hebron, Conn./RHAM), junior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and senior Braidy Shambaugh (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) posted a time of 9:42.83, which was good for first place. The foursome of senior Jennifer Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley), sophomore Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), and junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) and Hanson-Hall posted a first-place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:18.82. In the 4x55 shuttle hurdles, the group of Allen, Trentacoste, and seniors Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) crossed the line first with a mark of 34.30.
Bucknell had a number of athletes finish in the top three or better in the Gulden Relays. Junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) placed first in the mile run crossing the line with a time of 5:15.01, while fellow teammates sophomore Nicole Falcaro (Dingsman Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and senior Mollie Harms (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) finished second and third with times of 5:20.40 and 5:24.07, respectively. In the 5000, freshman Molly Pritz (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) broke the plane first with a time of 18:59.91, while sophomore Nicole Smith (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) placed second with a time of 19:33.13.
Freshmen Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton), Pierce, and junior Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) placed in the top three, respectively, in the long jump. Mantush jumped a distance of 17-8 (5.38m), Pierce marked a length of 17-4 (5.28m), while Ayala posted a distance of 17-2 (5.23m). Mantush also finished third in the high jump with a mark of 5-2 ¼ (1.58m).
In the triple jump, senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) won the event with distance of 37-7 ¾ (11.47m), while Ayala finished second with a length of 37-0 ½ (11.29m).
In the pole vault, senior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) posted a first-place showing, clearing 10-6 (3.20m), while teammate junior Ashley Curry (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown) and sophomore Alyson Cobb (Howell, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) placed second and third at heights of 10-6 (3.20m) and 9-0 ¼ (2.75), respectively.
Junior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 50-5 ¼ (15.37m), which ranks her eighth in school history. Sophomore Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) finished second in the 500 with a time of 1:18.02, while Dalzell finished third with a mark of 1:19.78.
The Bucknell women's indoor track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when the Bison will host the Bucknell Heptagonal in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
