LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) of Bucknell's women's outdoor track and field team received Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week honors, for the week ending May 7. Trentacoste led her team to its third consecutive outdoor Patriot League title this past weekend.
The junior struck gold in the 400-meter dash, clocking in a time of 56.71 seconds. Her time placed her third on the Bison all-time top-10 list and qualified her for a spot at the ECAC Championships.
Collecting the silver medal in the 100 high hurdles, Trentacoste broke the school record in the event with a time of 14.23 and qualified for the ECAC's. The old record stood at 14.44 seconds, set by Edwina Bourn in 2002. In the preliminaries, Trentacoste originally broke the record with a time of 14.25.
To add to her collection of medals, the Garden City, N.Y., native also collected a bronze in the 400-intermediate hurdles. Her time of 1:01.17 is the second-fastest in the Bucknell record books.
As a member of the 4x400-relay team, Trentacoste led her team to a second-place finish, clocking in a time of 3:52.68. Her split time of 56.4 served as the highest 4x400 split time in the meet.
For the win, the Orange and Blue collected 187.50 points, topping Navy in second with 132.50 and Lafayette in third with 128.
Bucknell will return to action next weekend, May 12-14, at the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J.
