PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Molly Dacey lined a one-out single to left-centerfield off of Bucknell starter Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) to score Christina Rodriguez with the winning run as the Bison softball team fell to Drexel, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at Drexel Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was called due to darkness.
Rodriguez blooped an infield single to reach base leading off the bottom of the seventh inning. She then stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ashlee Veilleux before scoring on Dacey's single.
Bucknell (0-7) jumped out on top of Drexel (1-4) in the top of the third inning when Kristin Frick (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), who had the only two hits of the game for the Bison, scored on a bases-loaded walk by Lauren Wible (Dover, Pa./Dover). Wible moved past Stacey Waite and into seventh place on Bucknell's career RBI list with 73.
Drexel quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the third as its turned three hits and one Bucknell error into a pair of runs.
The Bison evened the score up in the top of the fourth with a single run. Kris Devore (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Michelle Danish (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led off the fourth inning by reaching on a pair of throwing errors by the Dragons. They moved to second and third after a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover). A single by Frick pushed Devore across the plate.
Wiest (0-3) pitched 6.1 innings and allowed eight hits, three runs, two earned runs and walked two while striking out six. Her counterpart, Amanda Heyser (1-2), also pitched a complete game and yielded just the two hits to Frick while not allowing an earned run. He walked one batter and struck out three.
