BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell wrestling squad split in its trip to the Bloomsburg Duals on Sunday, defeating Delaware State, 36-6, and falling to Bloomsburg, 31-12. Following those results, the Bison head into their mid-season break with a record of 7-6 (2-1 EIWA).
Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) and Eric Lapotsky (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel) both were double winners for the Orange and Blue as the duo was responsible for all of Bucknell's points against the Huskies. Rendos, who is 16th in the nation according to the latest InterMat/NWCA/NWMA rankings, pinned Rickey Schmelyun in 4:11 at 165, while Lapotsky won by fall over PJ DiStefano in 1:53 in the 197-pound matchup for his ninth pin of the season.
Against the Hornets, the Bison jumped out to a 12-0 lead after winning the first three bouts by forfeit. Delaware State then cut its deficit in half with a 11-5 win by Will Saylor over Zach Galligan (Boonville, N.Y./Adirondack) at 149 and a 5-3 decision by Shancoe Berry over Brantley Hooks (Spartansburg, S.C./James F.Byrnes) at 157 to bring the score to 12-6.
However, Bucknell responded by sweeping the final five bouts. Rendos improved his duals record to 11-2 by downing Brandon Gardner, 5-3. George Mann (Orange, Ohio/Orange) won by forfeit at 174. Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) defeated Zumarr Archer, 9-3 at 184, Lapotsky recorded a 9-3 decision over Chris Woodall at 197 and heavyweight George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) closed things out with a 13-5 victory over Shawn Nowrey.
The Bison will break for the holidays and will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 5, when the team will travel to the Shorty Hitchcock Open in Millersville, Pa.
