
Army Spoils Home Opener for Bucknell Wrestling, 36-6

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In front of a home crowd in Davis Gym on Tuesday evening, the Bucknell wrestling team was unable to come away with the victory, as the Bison fell to Army, 36-6, in the squad's first meet held in Lewisburg since the program was reinstated. The setback evened the Orange and Blue's duals record at 2-2 on the season, 0-1 in the EIWA, while the Black Knights improved to 1-1, 1-0 against EIWA opponents.
Army opened with a 17-0 lead after Whitt Dunning defeated Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) at 125, 9-4, 133-pounder Matthew Kyler picked up a 12-4 major decision over David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central), William Simpson edged Zach Galligan (Boonville, N.Y./Adirondack), 2-0, at 144, Brian Rowan downed Michael Guttilla (Ingamer, Pa./Blair Academy) at 149, 20-8, and Christopher Grill was victorious over Brantley Hooks at 157, by the score of 7-3.
At 165, Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) put Bucknell on the board, pinning John Drew, 2:11 into the bout to preserve his undefeated record at 8-0 overall on the season, 4-0 in duals competition. Rendos' victory brought the Bison to within 11 at 17-6, but the Black Knights promptly took the six points back when Brent Smith pinned Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) at the 4:32 mark of the 174-pound matchup.
Army then closed out the meet with a 13-4 major decision by Scott Ferguson over George Mann (Orange, Ohio/Orange) at 184, followed by a 4-3 win for Connor Sanders over Eric Lapotsky (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel) at 197 and heavyweight Michael Sprigg collected his six points after George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) was unable to continue in the final bout.
The Bison next travel to Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 25, where the squad will compete in the Hoosier Duals beginning with Oregon at 10 a.m. followed by Ohio at noon, Indiana at 2 p.m. and Appalachian State at 4 p.m.
